Hi there. I'm Simon Reed, a freelance photographer specialising in Music and Events and I'm based in the Surrey Hills around an hour from London. Most of my images are shot in London and in south coast venues, but I'm available to take pictures across the whole of the UK and beyond.

My work has been published in national newspapers and books, my photographs are syndicated worldwide via the WENN picture agency, and I'm also a regular contributor to Louder Than War and RockShot music and culture magazines.

There aren't many things I've done that compare to the thrill of being between the crowd and the stage in a big theatre with three songs in which to nail your pictures. There are no second chances with this type of photography; you get it right first time, or not at all.

I deliver a talk to photography clubs/societies (and anybody else that might be interested) entitled '‘The View From The Pit’ and more details about that are right below.

Whilst I'm predominantly a live music photographer, I also undertake band and individual portraiture work and really enjoy collaborating with emerging talent. If that's you, then it would be great to hear from you. My contact details are at the foot of the page.

 The View From The Pit

An interactive talk for Camera Clubs and Societies

Click on the video above and if you’ve got just under a minute to spare, you can check out slides played at warp speed that accompany ‘View From The Pit’, an interactive presentation I deliver to camera clubs/societies. You could slow it right down and probably make some sense of it yourselves, but the testimonials I’ve received indicate it’s better delivered in person or via Zoom.

The talk is comprised of two halves and includes a break in the middle. It lasts ninety minutes to two hours, depending on the interactivity of the audience. The first half deals very much with the music part of music photography - the how and the why I got started. The second part details the photography part of music photography - equipment and techniques.

It’s a talk I really enjoy delivering and if you’re a club programme secretary and think the presentation would be of interest to your members, I’d be delighted were you to contact me regarding rates and availability. Meanwhile, here is some feedback from previous presentations…

“Thank you for a brilliant evening. Honestly it was just brilliant. Full of humour and technical information. Had so much good feed back. Images were wonderful and the stories that went with them great fun. Probably the best talk we have had this season.”

Reigate Photographic Society

“Many thanks for your very enjoyable presentation yesterday evening. Lots of great images, but also woven into a fascinating story of a type of photography which we see all the time in the media but which most of us know very little about. It’s so good to see photographs put into their context.”

Reading Camera Club

“I really enjoyed your talk last night. It was very interesting & well presented. Great pictures & stories.”

“Just wanted to drop you a quick line and thank you for the talk this evening. Really interesting and you clearly have a great passion for it. A great talk, well put together. Many thanks.”

 Yateley Camera Club

“Thank you very much for last night's entertaining and interesting talk. Some amazing photos and interesting interactions with the musicians.”

 Camberley and Windlesham Camera Club

“Thank you for your talk last week. It was really interesting and something a bit different. Your work is very inspiring.”

“Thanks so much for your fabulous presentation to KCC last night. As well as your stunning photography, it was so good to hear your story and be able to get some appreciation of context.”

 Kingston Camera Club

“Hi Simon, I just wanted to to say thank you for the very informative and interesting talk you gave to Hampton Hill Photographic Society on 19th May. You certainly gave us ‘A View from the Pit’, it was absolutely fascinating to hear about your journey as a music and events photographer. I’d looked at your website before the talk and having seen your images was really looking forward to the session. I wasn’t disappointed and loved every aspect, it was great to see the images and learn more about your kit and techniques.”
